冬至是中國最重要壹個節氣，也是中華民族壹個傳統的節日，冬至俗稱“冬節”“長至節”等。冬至是二十四節氣最早訂出來的，時間在每年陽歷12月21日至23日。冬至這天，北半球全年白天最短，夜晚最長。中國北方會在這天吃餃子、南方吃湯圓的習俗。
冬至那天，太陽高度最低，日照時間最短，地面吸收的熱量比散失的熱量多，冬至過後便開始“數九”。每九天為壹個“九”。到“三九”前後，地面積蓄的熱量最少，天氣最冷。所以叫“冷三九”。
