At age 40, due to a major military defeat, Churchill had lost his position as First Lord of the Admiralty as well as his influential role in politics.
Quite saddened, he retired to a farm with his family. Everyone believed that he would be permanently depressed.
One day, walking in the garden, he saw his sister-in-law painting with some watercolors. Then, he fell in love with painting.
Art helped him survive the loss of his mother, and begin life anew.
In the next ten years, although he did little in the political arena, Churchill painted prolifically.
Up to the time of his death, Churchill's biggest hobby was always painting.
