One animal has certainly had a strong role in our deepest fears, slipping into our subconscious, slithering in our worse nightmares, chances are when we encounter this creature even the bravest among us will have to say: why did it have to be snakes.
They show up on almost every corner on earth, hiding under rocks, up in trees, and sometimes, as has been documented, in toilets. Ever since the Garden of Eden, snacks has loomed large in our association with evil, they've always played a big part in legends, fables and myths in many religions and cultures. Some times they've been worshiped, but most often they are portrayed as the bad guy. They easily one of the most feared of all animals, one in four people admit to be deathly afraid of them. Many snakes are designed to intimidate, the are supposed to be scary, that way you might leave them alone. Rattler's rattle, cobra's spite and python's hiss, all just to warn to keep your distance, And it usually works very very well. Other species like a coral snake warn you with their bright colors that it's venomous to kill you. So effective is this message that at least three other snakes have evolved to masquerade as the coral snake, the scarlet snake, the scarlet king snake, and the snoring milk snake all have variations on theses colors, even though none of them are venomous at all. Among the thousands of snake spices one of the things they all have in common is the ability to move quickly and silently despite not having any legs, they make our skin crawl simply with their slither, and then there is that tongue, it flits in and out the mouth tasting the air for signs of prey, there is nothing better to top of this look by the addition of a good pair of fangs, the Gabon wiper is one the deadliest snake in Africa, enclosed in those membrane sheets are fangs that can reach two inches of length. Snake venom can be one the most lethal substances in the animal kingdom, a single wiper form a king cobra for instance can kill an adult elephant less than three hours. After injecting the venom at lightning quick strike the snake allows it's prey to go off and die. The venom starts the digesting process within the snake by dissolving the victim’s insides before it even starts swallowing it in whole. Another reason that snakes make the ? list is barely simple-snakes kill between thirty and forty thousand people each year. Despite the fact that up to almost three thousand snake spices out there, only about two hundred are considered a threat to humans, they still one of the most dangerous animals on the planet.
Snake venom is a important part of their arsenal and a precious commodity to them, they are only injected to human in the extremes of self-defense, they rather not waste it, but if they feel their safety threatened, they have no choice. Everywhere people live with the notable exception of Ireland and Antarctica you can find a least one dangerous species of snake, a fear of this reptile is one of many things that human share.
Tarantulas seen to embody everything we find frightening in an animal. Psychologist believe that for most people a fear of spiders are something we are born with, a caution prewired into our brains. It doesn’t seem to matter if someone has ever been hurt by one, in fact it doesn’t matter if they never even seen one. It seems We evolved the mechanism in our behavior that causes us to become wary spiders, a fear triggered by their movement and their shape. People tend to find a furry mammal appealing but a furry spider, well, we have a much harder time with that. The Tarantulas is the biggest and hairiest spider in the world. They can weigh as much as a quarter of a pound, span ten inches across. Not only can Tarantulas get very large, but they come at a variety of colors. They, like most spiders, have tinny little eye bulbs on top of their of their bodies, you never know where they are looking, but you are pretty sure they are looking at you. Their step is so fluid, slow and deliberate that it somehow seems unnatural. Their hairy fangs point downward, it's ancient design unchanged in over four hundred million years. For many people just a sight of a spider like the Tarantulas is enough to set a fit of uncontrollable panic, but other people keep them as pets, so it's obvious this ingrained terror doesn’t affect everyone.
